If only you took the time to see how commercial pet food companies are screwing you and your pets over, you would feel shock and betrayal. After all, you trust these people to know their products and deliver only the best to you and your furry pals. The problem is that these companies are out to make money on your ignorance and lack of knowledge. They are, in fact, 'laughing all the way to the bank'. The disgusting, inedible ingredients used in their products come from diseased and mistreated animals and non-food materials. Dead cats and dogs as well as road-killed animals are also known to be ingredients in cheap canned food.
Prior to the Second World War, canned food for cats and dogs contained meat. Although cooked, meat was the primary and major ingredient. Metal was so scarce at the time and necessary for the armed forces that even metal cans were removed from the market. So, pet food companies created dry kibble in bags. This food needed a crunchy element, had to be easy to swallow, and required preservatives for longer shelf life. Cost was also a factor as pure meat was and is more expensive than grain-fillers. Grains were added to bulk up the product and dilute meat. Corn, rice, gluten, wheat, soy, bone meal, oats, flours, and starches replaced protein. The meat industry continued to evolve and butchers became experts at separating meats, bones, and organs; most of the prey animals went to us for human consumption. The leftover carcass, hooves, tails, ears, and hides, all lacking nutrients and protein, went to our loyal companions. This became the convenient and easy way for companies and consumers alike. While animals, deficient in nutrition, suffer in silence, the proud pet parents boast about their on-point caring skills without the will to open up their eyes to reality.
When offered this 'food', domesticated animals turned away from it. After all, they had no interest or desire to eat wheat flour or meat byproducts. Pet food companies retaliated by adding artificial colors for consumer aesthetic effect, little fish and drumstick shapes for appeal, artificial MSG-filled flavors, carcinogen preservatives, and cheap, not-meant-for-human-consumption leftover carcass. Animals have to be lured and tricked into eating canned and dry food! When you see them gobbling it up, this just shows how deficient their bodies are in vital nutrients. These animals are in constant search for vitamins and minerals they so desperately lack. Cats and dogs scarf down canned and dry food, but this will never make up for those deficiencies because that type of food never had nutrients in the first place. The cycle repeats daily and animals suffer. Grains give nothing of benefit and will lead to digestive inflammation and chronic gastrointestinal diseases, at the very least. The meat used in canned food is of poor quality and mostly not meat at all. Cats are carnivores and their diet must consist of animal sources---bones, meat, and organs in various percentages.
It's no wonder they have the look of confusion when a raw meal is placed in front of them for the first time. Raw meals look quite different from the fish- and drumstick-shaped kibble. It is raw, primal, and evolutionary. It is a meal fit for lions and wolves, cats and dogs---ancestral and pure.
